DENTON (2/3/06) - The North Texas softball season is close at hand, and construction on the Mean Green Softball Complex is picking up speed.

The irrigation trenches are in the process of being installed in the outfield. The trenches will help water the grass in the outfield. The bleachers and press box are in place as is the scoreboard out in centerfield.

The softball team has been training at a new practice field on the other side from the site of the stadium. The squad is also using the indoor batting cages, located in the Mean Green Softball and Golf Facility, and the locker room.

The Mean Green opens its season on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Sam Houston Invitational. North Texas' first home game is Wednesday, Feb. 15 against Texas State. The team will play its first few games at Denia Park while the Mean Green Softball Complex is being completed.
