Three high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to play softball at the University of North Texas for the 2014-15 season, announced head coach Tracey Kee on Monday.

"This 2014 class will be one with the potential to make an immediate impact in our program from day one," said Kee. "Their competitiveness, drive, focus, athleticism and passion will carry them far. Their versatility will allow us to do many positive things in the near future. With continued guidance and coaching, this group will truly help our program continue to move forward."

For the 2014-15 school year, the signing class includes the following players:  Sarah Barker (IF/OF, Barbers Hill HS/Beach City, TX); Monique Garcia (RHP, Coronado HS/Lubbock, TX) and Brooklyn Misenhimer (P/INF, Sahuaro HS/Tucson, AZ).

Sarah Barker (INF/OF)
Barker is a three-time all-district player out of Beach City, Texas. She helped lead the Barbers Hill High School team to three Region 3 Area Championships. The Lady Eagles went undefeated in district play three straight years. Barker was also a three-time academic all-district performer. She played travel ball with the Tx Bombers HTX.

"Sarah is a ball of fire," said North Texas associate head coach Rone Robinson. "She is an athletic and smart softball player that will bring added depth to our infield and outfield. Sarah is a left-handed hitter with speed and possesses gap to gap power. We are thrilled to know that Sarah chose North Texas to continue her academic and softball career. She has developed into a leader on and off the field, and she will be a great asset to our program."

Monique Garcia (RHP)
Garcia was named District MVP after compiling a 27-5 record with a 1.25 ERA and 307 strikeouts her junior year. She pitched a no-hitter in the district championship game, helping her team claim the title. When she was in the circle for Coronado High School, Garcia picked up 27 of the Lady Mustangs' 36 wins in 2013. She also received all-state honors, was named the Avalanche Journal All-City and All-South Plains Softball Pitcher of the Year and was a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee. As a freshman, she was named first-team all-district as a pitcher, first-team All-South Plains Pitcher and second-team all-city. Garcia played travel ball with Tx Glory Gold Shelton.

"We are very excited that Monique has decided to continue her academic and softball career at North Texas," said North Texas head coach Tracey Kee. "She is a true competitor on the mound, and mentally tough beyond her young age. Her ability to balance the plate and attack hitters will put us in a position to be very successful as a team. She has competed at the highest levels in travel ball, thus preparing her for the next level. We look forward to seeing her wear the Green and White next season, and we are very excited to add her family to the Mean Green family."

Brooklyn Misenhimer (P/INF)
Misenhimer posted a 9-0 record in the circle her sophomore year at Sahuaro High School in Tucson, Ariz., leading her team to a 15-5 record. She was named AIA Section Player of the Year, first-team All-City and was a third-team All-Southern Arizona selection. As a freshman, she posted a 12-1 record in the circle and helped lead her team to the semifinals of division 2. She was named Tucsoncitizen.com Second-Team and Arizona Daily Star Honorable Mention All-Southern Arizona. She played travel ball with the Az Cats.

"Brooklyn is a winner as a person and as a softball player," said North Texas associate head coach Rone Robinson. "She is a high character kid that works on her craft day in and day out. We are extremely excited to have her join the Mean Green family.  Brooklyn will bring a lot of  toughness and versatility to our pitching staff and infield. She has had much success in her career, and we know she will continue it here at North Texas. We look forward to working with her."
