Kirk Named Madness C-USA Player Of The Week

April 15, 2014

DENTON, Texas - Senior pitcher Ashley Kirk was named the Madness C-USA Player of the Week by online publication CollegeSportsMadness.com, a website that covers all aspects of college sports from recruiting through the professional draft.

"I am beyond shocked to have received this award," Kirk said. "I had no idea that anyone had taken this much notice to what we're doing at North Texas."

The right-hander out of Round Rock, Texas, recorded the win in all three of North Texas' games at Marshall in a Conference USA sweep that pushed the Mean Green back into sole possession of second place in the league.

"I have to give the glory to God for allowing me to be in this position today," Kirk continued. "I wish I could take credit for this, but I have to give that to my team for being behind me defensively and offensively."

On the weekend, she struck out 21 and only allowed five earned runs in 14 innings of work. Her three victories over the Herd placed her into a tie for first on the single-season wins list with 19.

See Kirk and the rest of the Mean Green (27-15, 12-5 C-USA) on Wednesday, April 16, at 6 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium.
