DENTON, Texas - With a 3-1 win over Texas State, the Mean Green softball team won the Texas Shootout and claimed its 11th-straight victory.

The Mean Green is unbeaten in the friendly confines of Lovelace Stadium with a home record of 10-0.

"That was a lot of resiliency with Ashley Kirk holding on in another pitching duel, you just love to see that," head coach Tracey Kee said following the win. "I think we can enjoy this victory today, but we have a lot of work to do this week."

The two Texas-based squads were scoreless until sophomore Karly Williams opened up the game with a two-out two-run bomb over the left field wall to put NT up 2-0.

"I had just been frustrated but as coach said, I started getting some contact, which became hard contact and then one went my way," Karly Williams said. "I had to just get up there and relax."

The bomb would be all the Mean Green needed as it held Texas State to a mere one run in the game.

"This one means a lot, we have a lot of momentum going right now." Williams continued. "I think going into next weekend, we just have to work hard throughout the week."

Workhorse starting pitcher Ashley Kirk grabbed her seventh win of the season in a complete-game performance, giving up four hits and striking out nine.

The Mean Green begins its third home tourney of the season on Saturday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m. against Wichita State in the Best Western/Courtyard Classic.
