North Texas To Face Longhorns In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

DENTON (11/8/04) The North Texas women’s soccer team will face the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Austin at 7 p.m..

 

The Mean Green (16-5-1), fresh off its first ever Sun Belt Conference Tournament title, will take on the 12th seeded Longhorns (13-6-2) in its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

 

North Texas will enter the game on a four-game winning streak and as winners in six of its past seven games.

 

The Longhorns are coming off a loss in the Big XII title game to Texas A&M 3-0. 

 

The two teams have three common opponents this season, Baylor, Texas A&M, and SMU. North Texas went a combined 1-2 while Texas was 0-3-1. North Texas won the only previous match-up of the two teams in 1999, a 2-1 victory in overtime in Denton.

 

North Texas will be the fourth seed in the Austin Regional along with SMU, West Virginia, and Texas. The Longhorns are the top seed regionally and the No. 12 seed nationally.

 

The first round of the NCAA Tournament is set for Friday, November 12. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. following the first match between SMU and West Virginia.
