North Texas Off To Its Best Start In School History With A Rout Of Texas State

DENTON, Tex. (9/14/07) It was a night for the young, the old and the records as the North Texas soccer team pounded Texas State 5-0 from the North Texas Soccer Field. Thanks to freshman Janaye Woods, freshman Linsday Lackore and senior Heather Hutyra, the Mean Green is off to its best start in school history at 5-0.

The trio combined for 10 points as Woods had two goals, Lackore notched a goal and Hutyra had a goal and two assists.

It only took 37 seconds for North Texas to score first as Woods buried a goal on a deflection off a perfectly threaded pass by Hutyra.

Woods scored her second goal of the night in the 36th minute of play from 10 yards out to make it 2-0 North Texas. The Mean Green added one more goal before the break as Christie Stewart headed a ball past Bobcat goalkeeper Mandi Mawyer in the 41st minute of play.

Lackore made it 4-0 Mean Green in the 50th minute with her first career goal. Lackore was alone on the left side and nailed a shot in the top right corner from 20 yards out.

Hutyra notched her first goal of the night in the 64th minute of the game with some fancy foot work to extend the Mean Green lead to 5-0. She recovered a loose ball in the box and dribbled away from the Bobcat (0-6) defenders to create just enough space to fire it in for her 42nd career goal.

The North Texas defense was stifling throughout the game to notch its third shutout of the season.

Goalkeepers Kandice Ellis and Amanda Hall combined to shutout the Bobcats as North Texas outshot Texas State 26-4.

North Texas is back in action on Sunday afternoon as they host Grambling State at 1 p.m.
