Soccer Receives Second Straight Weekly Honor

DENTON, Texas (8/27/12) - Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine was named Defensive Player of the Week, the Sun Belt Conference announced Monday.

"It definitely means a lot [to me]," said Kerestine. "It makes me really excited because I didn't expect it at all."

Kerestine recorded her second shutout of the season in a 1-0 double-overtime win against Sam Houston State and made five saves in a 2-1 win over the Houston Cougars.

The Euless, Texas native had a shutout streak of 360:49, which spanned from the first game of the season until Houston's Jasmine Martinez tallied a goal on Sunday in the Mean Green's fourth game. Kerestine has also allowed just one goal or fewer in 16 consecutive games dating back to last season.

The award is the second-consecutive weekly honor for the undefeated Mean Green, who also had Kelsey Hodges picked up the award in week one. Western Kentucky's Amanda Buechel was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week.

North Texas will look for its fifth consecutive win on Fri., August 31, at home against Texas Southern at 7 p.m.
