Soccer Routs FAU 5-0

DENTON, Texas- North Texas extended its winning streak to six games, the longest winning streak for the Mean Green since 2007, as they defeated FAU 5-0 at the Mean Green Soccer Field. Michelle Young scored twice for the Mean Green.

North Texas improves to 11-5-1 on the season and 6-2 in the Sun Belt. FAU falls to 4-11 on the season and 3-5 in Sun Belt play. North Texas' 5-0 victory is their largest victory in a Sun Belt game since a 7-0 victory against Louisiana-Monroe in 2007. The win guarantees North Texas' 16th straight winning season in 16 years, one of five programs in the nation who are guaranteed to enter 2011 with 16 or more consecutive winning seasons.

"We came right after them from the beginning and scored some early goals," said Head Coach John Hedlund. "We got the results that we wanted, and hopefully we can move up in the rankings this week."

Michelle Young scored twice on the afternoon, continuing her hot streak that has seen her score a goal or collect an assist in all six games of North Texas' winning streak. In the 21st minute, she blocked a upfield pass from the keeper with her body, collected the loose ball, and tapped it into the net to make the score 3-0. Young scored her 8th goal of the season in the 58th minute, when she received a pass from Loreli Ramsey in the box and scored from a sharp angle. Young added her fifth assist of the year on North Texas' fourth goal, and now has assist in four straight games.

North Texas first got on the board in the 10th minute when Kelsey Hodges intercepted a bad pass from the goalkeeper that she directed into the net, her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Loreli Ramsey fired in a long shot from 30 yards to double North Texas' lead in the 11th minute. The goal was the first of Ramsey's career. Ramsey added an assist on North Texas' fifth goal, and now has two assists on the year.

Dani Watson scored the fourth goal for North Texas by firing a shot from 35 yards out into the net in the 29th minute. The goal is the first of the season for Watson.

Mandy Hall recorded her ninth scoreless outing of the season, playing a flawless first half. She lowered her season GAA to 0.69.

The Mean Green travel to Little Rock, Ark. on Thursday, October 22 to face off against UALR at 7 p.m.  North Texas returns to the Mean Green Soccer Field on Sunday, October 24 for their final regular season home game, when it hosts Arkansas State at 1 p.m.
