Soccer Extends Home Opener Streak, Ties 2-2

DENTON, Texas- North Texas remains unbeaten in its 17th straight home opener with a 2-2 double-overtime draw against Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at the Mean Green Soccer Complex. Allison Guderian and Carly McDowell scored goals for the Mean Green.

Oral Roberts (0-1-1) jumped out to an early lead with a 4th minute goal. North Texas (0-0-1), who at one point led the shot count 8-1, dominated the run of play for much of the game, and quickly equalized in the 10th minute.

Sophomore Allison Guderian intercepted a clearance and blasted a shot from nearly 40 yards out to tie the game in the 10th minute. The unassisted goal was the first of Guderian's career in 22 games, and her first appearance on the scoresheet since an assist on August 27, 2010.

Senior Carly McDowell put the Mean Green in front in the 31st minute, with a strike from the top right of the box. The goal was the seventh of McDowell's career, and was assisted by Kelsey Petty, who made her college soccer debut this afternoon.

Anna Bickers scored on a set piece in the 82nd minute to equalize for Oral Roberts, and end the scoring on the afternoon.

North Texas is now 11-5-1 in season openers and 16-0-1 in home openers. North Texas maintains a 3-game lead in the all-time series against Oral Roberts, with the leger standing at 4-1-1.

Seven players made their North Texas debut on the afternoon, including Petty, who assisted the second goal, and Jackie Kerestine, who played the second half and both overtimes in goal.

North Texas out-shot Oral Roberts 24-10.

The Mean Green return to the pitch on Friday, August 26 at Texas Southern. The Mean Green return to the Mean Green Soccer Complex on Sunday, August 28 at 1 p.m. to host Grambling.
