DENTON, Texas – Fresh off a trip to the Conference USA Tournament finals, John Hedlund once again strengthened the North Texas soccer roster with the signings of former club teammates and Marchelle Davis of Texas and Kaylah Hunter of Baylor.

The teammates, who played for a national club soccer title with Dallas Texans ECNL ’95, will be immediately eligible for the Mean Green, which already boasts an attacking line that includes C-USA Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year Rachel Holden, and All-C-USA caliber forward Amber Haggerty and midfielder Karla Pineda.

“Marchelle and Kaylah are two great additions for us this fall,” Hedlund said. “Being club teammates while playing for national power ECNL Dallas Texans will make this transition much easier for both of them, and the experience they gained playing in the Big 12 will be immensely valuable throughout their new career at North Texas. I look forward to Marchelle and Kaylah wearing Mean Green uniform this fall.”

Marchelle Davis • 5-6 • Fr. • F • Trophy Club, Texas (Byron Nelson HS) • Univ. of Texas
Davis, one of the region’s most prized recruits prior to her arrival at Texas, started seven games up top for the Longhorns in 2013. The Trophy Club, Texas native scored a pair of goals – the game winners against Oklahoma and Iowa State – and added an assist to rank seventh on the squad with five points on the year. She put 11 of her 26 shots on goal, and racked up 890 minutes as a promising freshman talent.

TopDrawerSoccer.com ranked Davis the No. 25 prospect in the state after being named the District 11-4A Co-Offensive Player of the Year and Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASC) Honorable Mention All-State as a senior at Byron Nelson High School. She was a 2013 Dallas Morning News SportsDayHS All-Area selection a year after powering BNHS to the UIL State Tournament, where she was named to the All-Tournament team.

Kaylah Hunter • 5-3 • Fr. • F • Mesquite, Texas (Poteet HS) • Baylor
Hunter, a 2013 TASC First-Team All-State selection, brings an equally impressive resume to North Texas despite missing the 2013 campaign at Baylor after a preseason injury. She joins Davis as a 2013 Dallas Morning News SportsDayHS All-Area selection, and was a former District 23-4A MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, as well as a three-time first-team All-District honoree.

TopDrawerSoccer.com ranked Hunter a three-star recruit after she scored a total of 70 goals in three seasons at Poteet HS. In 2010, the Dallas Morning News named her the All-Area Newcomer of the Year. On top of her high school and club accolades, Hunter attended the North Texas Olympic Development Program from 2008-11, and was selected for the National ODP camp in 2010.
