Design & Construction

The Design & Construction Team is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the planning, design and execution of construction and major renovation projects for the campuses
  • Coordinating, supervising or developing documents relating to LEED and/or sustainable principles such as the Owner Project Manual
  • Managing and monitoring project development to ensure meeting project goals, University standards and compliance with national, state and municipal codes compliance
  • Preparing proposed project budgets and maintains approved budgets through completion of the project
  • Reviews the development of project design, schedule, costs and maintains follow-up through project completion
  • Ensuring that campus-wide design reviews are conducted at the end of each design phase and that a detailed technical review of final construction drawings and specifications is conducted within the time allotted by the approved schedule
  • Coordinating administrative and technical work of new construction, remodeling, and renovation for the System
  • Assisting in the preparation of change orders
  • Assisting the contractor in coordinating work with respective campus activities and policies; provides for access to the work site, parking, availability of utility services, security, etc.
  • Keeping System and individual campus staffs informed of problem situations
  • Providing oversight of on-site performance of all construction projects
  • Administering contracts for construction, ensures that projects are performed in conformance with contracts
  • Reviewing change orders and negotiating when appropriate
  • Reviewing and recommending payment applications
  • Reviewing GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) submittals from contractors
  • Reviewing and commenting on specifications and drawings as they are being developed

CASSANDRA NASH
Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Design & Construction
Cassandra Nash is responsible for design and construction of projects over $2M at all campuses (unless delegated). Her team ensures compliance with the Master Plan of each campus and manages design and construction of all new construction and renovation. Nash also contributes to the development of Capital Plans for the System and campuses, ensures quality control and compliance with Life Safety and Building codes and is responsible for cost control and project management of capital projects.
