Each semester the UNT Libraries holds a Food for Fines Canned Food Drive to help students take care of their library fines in a creative way that helps the local community as well.  The drive runs for two weeks each semester. A one dollar credit is applied for each soup size can donated, up to twenty dollars. The cans collected are then donated at the end of each drive.  For the Spring 2015 Food for Fines Canned Food Drive we collected 533 canned goods.  They were donated to the UNT Student Food Pantry and the Denton County Friends of the Family Food Bank.
