Chun Tied For The Lead After 36 Holes

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Jacey Chun and Addison Long fueled a big move for the North Texas women's golf team as they shot up the leaderboard in the second round of the "Mo"morial Inviational. Chun and Long both fired 1-under par rounds of 71 and Chun is in a three-way tie for the individual lead after 36 holes of play.

North Texas as team fired the second lowest round of the day at 6-over par 294. The Mean Green is alone in third place as they climbed ahead of Florida State, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and host school Texas A&M. North Texas sits with a score of 609 after 36 holes as they trail only Auburn and clubhouse leader Texas heading into the final round.

"We played some very smart golf today," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "Jacey and Addison played beautifully and I congratulate Taylor Kilponen on some outstanding golf, too.  I am continually impressed with this team's ability to use every day as a practice round and get better as we go along in a tournament.  Tomorrow will be a great opportunity and a great challenge as well.  It will be fun being paired with Texas and Auburn, two traditionally top-ranked teams. Tomorrow's round will be very exciting."

Chun had five birdies on the day and shot a 3-under par 33 on her first nine holes of play. She is 1-under par at 143 after two rounds as she looks for her first medalist championship of her career.

Long is now tied for 12th place after her 1-under par 71 in the second round thanks to five birdies on the day. She birdied three of her last four holes on the day. Long is eight shots behind Chun at 7-over par 151 through two rounds.

Taylor Kilponen had a 2-over par 74 in the second round and she is tied for 28th place after two rounds. Kilponen had a great round going at 2-under par until two double bogeys in the final five holes tripped her round up.

Kelsey Kipp fired a second round of 78 while Chaslyn Chrismer rebounded from a difficult opening round of 90 to shoot a second round of 79.

Katie Paxton, playing as an individual for the Mean Green, posted a second round of 87.
