Mean Green Finish Second In Last Fall Tourney

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Despite the blustery conditions, the No. 42 North Texas men's golf battled through and finished in a tie for second place at the Lone Star Invitational. With scores soaring due to the high winds, the Mean Green shot a final round of 302 and finished eight shots behind the tournament champion No. 16 New Mexico.

The Mean Green finished in a tie with Texas A&M with a three-round score of 869. North Texas had three players finish in the top-25 led by Carlos Ortiz.

Ortiz had his second straight top-5 finish after a final round of 2-over par 74. He had three birdies on the day and finished with at 1-under par 215 to finish in a tie for fourth place. Cazaubon was 4-over par on the day and finished at 3-over par 219 for the tournament to finish in a tie for 17th place.

Josh Jones and Ty Spinella both fired a 4-over par 76 in the third round. Jones had three birdies on the day while Spinella had two birdies. Jones finished tied for 23rd at 4-over par 220. Spinella closed with a 228.

Jason Roets struggled on the final day with an 11-over par 83. Roets was only 2-over par after the front nine, but had a tough time on the back nine, finishing 9-over par. Despite the final round, Roets finished tied for 31st at 222.

North Texas finished ahead of No. 18 Baylor, No. 34 Arizona, and No. 44 UTA. The only ranked team to finish ahead of the Mean Green was New Mexico.

The tournament concludes the fall season for North Texas as they will return to action when the spring season begins on February 13-14 at the UTSA Invitational.
