McPherson Paces NT in Opening Round at Baylor

WACO (9/29/03) -- With just Reid McPherson able to break par, the North Texas men's golf team struggled through the opening two rounds of the Baylor Invitational on Monday, standing in 11th place with team rounds of 295-300 -- 593.

McPherson fired a one-under 71 on the par 72 Bear Ridge Golf Club course and finished Monday's opening two rounds with scoring of 71-77 for a 148 total. Brad Gibson led the Mean Green with rounds of 74-73 for a 147 total.

Baylor led after the first day with a 573 team total, holding a one stroke lead over Louisiana State in the team standings. Individually, Lamar's Chris Stroud blistered the course with rounds of 65 and 68 for a 133 total, four strokes in front of Wichita State's Judd Easterling and Jeremy Frye of Baylor.

The tournament concludes with a single round on Tuesday.
