NT Leads By Seven Strokes After First Day

TOLEDO, Ohio - After the first day, the North Texas men's golf team has opened up a seven stroke lead and senior Rodolfo Cazaubon is atop the leaderboard after the first two-rounds of the Inverness Invite.

The Mean Green shot back-to-back rounds of even-par 284 and holds a seven shot lead over Northwestern heading into the final round. Cazaubon is 4-under par after two rounds and has a one-shot lead heading into the third round. Cazaubon is going after his first career individual title.

North Texas has three of the top-seven golfers in the field. Cazaubon had 10 birdies in two rounds on the day. He was 1-under par in the opening round with four birdies. In the second round he vaulted into the lead after a shaky start. Cazaubon was 2-over par after four holes, but finished the final 14 holes at 5-under par to overtake the field.

Sophomore Jason Roets is also in the hunt at 1-under par 141 after 36 holes, three shots behind Cazaubon. Roets followed up an even-par round of 71 in the first round with a 1-under par score in the second round. He posted eight birdies on the day.

Senior Curtis Donahoe is tied for seventh place at 1-over par 143 after two rounds. Donahoe had five birdies in the first round and was 1-under par, but fell after shooting a 2-over par in the second round. Donahoe was four-over par after six holes in the second round, but jump started his round with an eagle three on the par-5 13th hole.

Senior Carlos Ortiz is tied for 18th place after consecutive rounds of 2-over par. Ortiz had a roller coaster of a day, as he played the back 9 holes at 5-under par, but the front nine at 9-over.  Ortiz eagled the par-5 13th hole in the first and second rounds and had three birdies to go along with the two eagles.

Sophomore Juan Munoz is at 158 after two straight scores of 79 in the first day.

North Texas is going after its first win in the regular season since capturing the UTA/Waterchase Invitational to start the 2010-11 season.

The Mean Green leads Northwestern by seven, Florida State by 10, and South Florida by 11 heading into the final round.
