Mean Green A No. 7 Seed In NCAA Tournament

DENTON, Texas – After capturing another Sun Belt Conference title, the No. 37 North Texas men’s golf team is off to the NCAA Regional Tournament to play in the Pullman, Washington Regional.

The Mean Green is the seventh seed and will play at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club May 16-18. It is the 31st NCAA appearance in school history for North Texas.

North Texas is making its third straight NCAA appearance for the first time since 1970-72. The Mean Green is going after its first NCAA Finals appearance in the modern era since finishing third at the championship in 1963. North Texas won four straight NCAA Tournament titles from 1949-52.

The Mean Green won the 2013 SBC crown thanks in part to the strong play of seniors Rodolfo Cazaubon, Carlos Ortiz and Curtis Donahoe. Cazaubon finished in second place at the SBC Championship after losing a one-hole playoff while Ortiz and Donahoe finished in a tie for fifth place.

Cazaubon and Ortiz were both named to the all-conference team for the fourth straight year. The pair is only the second and third players in school history to be named to the all-conference team in four straight years.

North Texas is in a regional with the No. 1 ranked team in the country, the Cal Bears. TCU is the No. 2 seed, USC the No. 3 seed, St. Mary’s (Calif.) the No. 4 seed, Virginia Tech the No. 5 seed and BYU the No. 6 seed. The regional has 14 teams and five individual players.

The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The finals will be conducted May 28-June 2, at The Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia Tech is the host institution for this year’s championships.
