Stracke Named C-USA Coach Of The Year

May 6, 2015

DENTON -- After leading the North Texas men's golf team to its third conference title in four seasons, head coach Brad Stracke was named the Conference USA Coach of the Year.

In addition, senior Juan Munoz, who won the Conference USA Individual title, was named second-team all-conference while Michael Cotton was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team.

It is the second Coach of the Year honor for Stracke, who was the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year.

Munoz had a break-out season, leading the Mean Green in stroke average and capturing two individual titles. Munoz had seven top-25 finishes throughout the season and a career-low round of 63 en route to winning the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.

Munoz had perhaps the two biggest birdies of the season in the C-USA Championship. During the semifinal match against Charlotte, Munoz trailed by one hole with two to play, but won holes 17 and 18 with birdies to propel the Mean Green to the finals match and the eventual championship.

Cotton burst onto the scene in the spring for North Texas and finished the year as the second highest ranked freshman in C-USA. Cotton had five top-25 finishes as a freshman. He notched two crucial victories in match play of the C-USA championship.

North Texas continues to gear up for their 34th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Mean Green head to the New Haven Regional as the No. 11 seed, looking to advance to the NCAA Finals for the first time in the modern era.
