DENTON, Texas – The professional debut of Carlos Ortiz on the Web.com Tour was nearly flawless as he finished in third place at the rained shortened Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship. Ortiz shot a 10-under par and collected the third place check of $51,000. He is the first North Texas golfer to cash at a PGA Tour event since Joel Edwards.

The only disappointment for Ortiz came when the final round was cancelled due to heavy thunderstorms, preventing him a chance at catching tournament winner Alex Cejka.  He finished the third round Sunday morning with birdies on 14, 16 and 17 Sunday morning to shoot a 4-under 67 and finish at 10-under 203.

Ortiz was under-par in all three rounds, with two rounds of 4-under par 67 sandwiched between a second round of 2-under par.  He was one of only five players to shoot a bogey free round on Thursday. Ortiz finished ahead of some regular names on the PGA Tour such as Billy Mayfair, Colt Knost, Casey Wittenburg, Rod Pampling, Hunter Haas and J.J. Killeen.

It was the second start for Ortiz on the Web.com Tour, but his first as a professional.  He received a sponsor exemption to the 2010 Mexico Open Bicentenary and played as an amateur but shot 74-77 and missed the cut.

The third-place finish caps an impressive two-week stretch for Ortiz in Colombia. The previous week he captured the Club La Prairie of Potosi in Colombia, an event put on by the Argos Professional Golf Tour.

Ortiz tees it up next at the Chile Classic in Santiago, Chile on March 6-9.
