NEXT GAME:
North Texas heads to the “Little Apple” to take on Kansas State on Saturday, Sept., 15 at 6 p.m.

With the victory, North Texas won its first home opener since 2006 (vs. SMU). The Mean Green is 56-24-2 all-time in home openers.

Texas Southern rushed for 31 total yards, which are the fewest rushing yards allowed by a North Texas team since it held Abilene Christian to -6 yards in 1992.

NT held Texas Southern to 185 total yards, which are the fewest by a Mean Green opponent since that same Abilene Christian game. NT held ACU to 95 total yards in that game.

North Texas has now had two rushers over 100 yards in each of its last two home games. Brandin Byrd (136) and Antoinne Jimmerson (139) both reached the century mark against Texas Southern, while Lance Dunbar (313 yards) and James Hamilton (108 yards) did the same against Middle Tennessee in the 2011 home finale.

TSU had 544 yard in their season opening win, but was held to 16 total yards and -2 rushing yards at the half by North Texas.

In North Texas’ seven games at Apogee Stadium, the Mean Green has held four of its opponents scoreless at the half.

RB Brandin Byrd punched in North Texas’ first two touchdowns on the day, which gives the junior his first multi-score game.

Jeremy Brown’s 5-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run was the first of his career.

The 46-yard end-around to Brelan Chancellor on the game's opening drive is the longest rushing play of the season so far.

Marcus Trice recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter.

Zac Whitfield has now logged an interception in both of North Texas's games this season.

Antoinne Jimmerson recorded a 39-yard rush, which is the longest in his career, and the second longest of the season so far.

Alexander Lincoln earned his first career start at DT, and recorded his first career tackle for loss on TSU’s first offensive play. The game also marked Aaron Bellazin’s first career start.

Zach Olen is 2-of-2 on field goals this season after booting 28 and 34 yarders against Texas Southern, and remains a perfect 6-of-6 on extra point attempts this year.
