DENTON – The 2016 North Texas football non-conference schedule has been announced and features two home games to begin the season and road games at Florida and Army.

The Mean Green will open the 2016 season at home on September 3 against SMU. The two teams will be meeting for the third straight season and the 35th time overall in series history. It will be just the fourth visit to Denton for SMU.

North Texas faces Bethune-Cookman on September 10 at Apogee Stadium, a game that replaces a previously scheduled contest with Liberty. The two programs are meeting for the first time.

On September 17, the Mean Green plays at Florida for the first time since 1947, which was the only previous meeting with the Gators and a 20-12 North Texas victory.

The final non-conference game for North Texas is at Army on October 22. The teams renew a series that left off in 2010. It will be the third visit to West Point for the Mean Green.

The non-conference schedule gives North Texas two home games for the first time to begin the year since 1990. The complete schedule for 2016 will be announced at a later date.
