DENTON - The North Texas Athletic Department, in an effort to dramatically increase the presence and involvement of its former letterwinners in developing and growing Mean Green athletics, is overhauling the former Lettermen's Association and on Monday launched the new North Texas Letterwinners Association.

The North Texas Letterwinners Association offers active members significantly increased benefits, including being able to vote in the annual Hall of Fame selection process beginning in 2018.

To mark the debut of the new Letterwinners Association, the athletic department has created a website devoted to the Association, MeanGreenForLife.com. The site is home to members' benefit information, the Association's new constitution, news, events, officers and committees, tailgate information and how to register as an active member. The site also contains a Hall of Fame nomination form.

"I am excited about these changes and enhancements to our letterwinners association," North Texas Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics and director of athletics Wren Baker said. "One of our goals is to find meaningful ways to connect with and grow relationships with our all of our former athletes. Having a defined structure and dedicated website will allow us to better collect information and communicate with all the former student-athletes who gave great effort representing this university."

The association is running a membership drive that concludes Sept. 23. Letterwinners who register online by Sept. 23 will receive a $10 concessions voucher good for the 2017-18 regular season in any sport.

Members who refer friends/former teammates to join by Sept. 23 earn rewards. The new member can register via the online registration page and simply enter the name of the person who referred them in the comments box. Five referrals earns one parking pass to the Red/Blue parking lot for football games; 10 referrals earns Letterwinners Association/MeanGreenForLife branded apparel; and 20 referrals earns a lunch with the director of athletics.

The North Texas Letterwinners Association has three mission goals:

• to mentor UNT student-athletes and help them exemplify the highest ideals of competition and sportsmanship;
• to inspire and instill a sense of history, tradition, and pride in current and future generations of Mean Green student-athletes;
• to support North Texas athletics, whether through donations, fund-raising events, volunteering, or just attending games to cheer on the Mean Green.

In addition to making a difference in the lives of current and future North Texas student-athletes, active members receive the benefits such as a 20-percent discount on tickets including football single-game and season tickets in the lower bowl and season tickets in the Club Level; two free general-admission tickets to any regular season home game, any sport; and free and discounted admission to select association events.
