Mean Green Take Third At SBC Championship

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (10/28/06) Led by senior Frank Ngeno, the North Texas men’s cross country team finished in third place at the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Championship. Ngeno was one of three runners for the Mean Green to finish in the top 15.

 

Ngeno finished in eighth place with a time of 25:14.96 in the 8k race. Sophomore Billy Giano took 11th place with a time of 25:35.57 and freshman Brandon Cooper closed out a strong initial season with a 15th place finish and a time of 26:09.52.

 

Josh Rogers was 26th with a time of 26:44.94 and freshman Matt Peters 38th with a time of 27:26.18.

 

On the women’s side North Texas finished in seventh place led by the strong performance of Michelle Gallegos. She had a time of 18:48.91 to finish in 14th place in the 5k race. Senior Jill Brennan had the second best mark for North Texas with a time of 19:04.32.

 

Phanice Orora was 26th with a time of 19:21.04.  Freshman Amanda Kean clocked in with a time of 19:30.04 and Alex Sherwin ran the course in 20:14.78.

 

South Alabama captured the men’s title while Western Kentucky brought home the women’s title.

 

North Texas will next compete in the NCAA South Central Regional on November 11.
