Freshman Strong Shines At Memphis Twilight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (10/7/07) - The bigger the field the better for freshman Patrick Strong. He paced the North Texas men’s cross country at the Memphis Twilight to a 12th place finish in the 8k race that featured 341 runners. Strong finished the race in a time of 24:38.20 and had the sixth best time among collegiate athletics.

 

Junior Billy Giano finished in 35th place with a time of 25:39.33. Sophomore Daniel Holobowicz had a time of 26:18.70 and Tayo Harriman checked in with a time of 26:28.22. Matt Peters ran a 26:57.41 while freshman Joey Manning finished at 28:06.10 and Andrew Sumner at 30:08.16.

 

The men as a team finished in eighth place out of 41 teams that were scored. On the women’s side Jessica Torres led the way in the 5k race with a time of 19:46.87. Michelle Gallegos was less than a second behind Torres at 19:47.79.

 

Freshman Sallie Anderson was right behind them at 19:52.35. Emily Sotello had a time of 20:21.61 while Ashley Sanders ran a time of 21:18.43. Alex Sherwin and Tara Piles came in with times of 21:24.70 and 21:30.73.

 

The Mean Green has the next two weeks off to prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Championship on October 27 at Bowling Green, Ky.
