Distinguished Alumni Award

As of March 2018, the selection process for the Texas Academy of Math and Science at UNT Distinguished Alumni Award honoree will include formal nominations that will be accepted from TAMS alumni, staff, and the community. There will not be an honoree selected in 2018; the next recipient to be awarded will be in June 2019.

The highest honor awarded by the by the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science at the University of North Texas (TAMS at UNT), the Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes a graduate who during the course of their career has made a notable contribution that has improved their profession and/or community. They enrich the lives of others through their leadership, shared knowledge, creativity, and innovation.

Please consider the following when deliberating about a potential nominee:

  • What unique contributions has the nominee made to their profession and/or community?
  • How has the candidate's professional or personal success enriched the lives of others?
  • In what ways was the candidate strikingly innovative in bringing about lasting change in their profession or community?


A strong nomination includes letters of support such as a formal letter of recommendation, a formal biography, magazine or newspaper article(s), websites or other relevant articles.

July 2: Nominations Open
November 16: Nominations Close
Mid-January: Nomination packets distributed to Distinguished Alumni Selection Committee
February: Nominating Committee meets
March: Honoree notified
April-May: Nominator of recipient selected notified
May-June: Recipient publicly announced
