Prospective Student-Athlete Information - Women's Basketball

We are excited about your interest in the University of North Texas and Mean Green women's basketball, a program which has a rich history and an exciting future.

Under second-year head coach Jalie Mitchell, the Mean Green combined to go 23-38 and have improved on their record each season.

In Mitchell's first season, the Mean Green more than doubled their win total and won their first-ever C-USA tournament game. In year two, North Texas brought together eight newcomers and reached the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament. They set program records, such as C-USA wins, winning streak and road winning streak.

Mitchell, a 2002 North Texas graduate, has brought Mean Green pride to the program and set a new standard of commitment to the court but also in the classroom and in the community. The Mean Green posted a program-best 3.2 GPA this past year and donated at least one day a month to community service in Denton.

Quick Hits On North Texas Athletics
During the 2016-17 school year, the Mean Green soccer team won its third-straight Conference USA regular-season conference championship and the football team played in the Heart of Dallas Bowl for the second time in the last four years. Individually, 48 Mean Green athletes were named all-conference and five were named all-region.

Nine competitors advanced to the NCAA post-season play with three golfers competing in the NCAA Regionals, and six track and field athletes advancing to the NCAA West Preliminaries. Maria Kononova ended the tennis season ranked No. 78 in the country, which is the highest ranking for a Mean Green tennis player in school history.

The future looks bright at North Texas with two freshman receiving conference specialty awards and five newcomers being named to all-freshman teams this past season.

The Women's Basketball Coaching Staff
Please note that, per NCAA rules, coaches can only respond via e-mail to juniors (after September 1) and seniors in high school. Coaches must mail responses to freshmen and sophomores, per NCAA rules. You can call any North Texas coach, but they cannot return your phone call unless you are a senior in high school.

Facilities
Recognized as one of the finest college basketball facilities in the nation, the Super Pit is home to both the University of North Texas men's and women's basketball teams. The women's basketball locker room was most recently renovated in 2017.

Built in 1973, the Coliseum is designed for multi-purpose use and is frequently the setting for concerts and theater stage productions as well as athletic events. In 2013, the "E" Practice Facility opened, providing the men's and women's basketball teams with their own practice court.

Named for its benefactor, alumnus Ernie Kuehne, who spearheaded the fund raising to build a practice facility for the men's and women's basketball teams, softball, and golf, the "E" is located in the Mean Green Village on the west side of Bonnie Brae St. across the driveway from the Volleyball Center. The facility's centerpiece is a full-length basketball court, complete with lockerrooms and scoreboard, allowing Mean Green basketball players to practice at any time.

Academic Athletic Services
In the Fall of 2005, the academic and compliance staff relocated to the Mean Green Village. Located on Bonnie Brae, the new Student-Athlete Development Center is three times the size of the former academic center. The Center serves as the cornerstone of the Mean Green Village and is only a short walk from the surrounding sports facilities.
