Graduation

How do I apply for graduation?

Log into your student center, click on "Student Center", "My Academics", then "Apply for Graduation".  More information can also be found at (http://www.untdallas.edu/registrar/graduation-0). This information is updated every semester.

I am trying to apply for graduation but it's not letting me.

Check (http://www.untdallas.edu/registrar/graduation-0) to make sure the application has opened for the current semester and/or has not already closed for the current semester. If application has already closed, you will need to wait until the following semester to apply.

Once I apply for graduation, what are my next steps?

If you haven't done so already, set an appointment with your advisor to do a final "Grad Check".  Contact the Bookstore to order your cap and gown, invitations, and other graduation related items.  Be on the lookout for an email from your advisor, letting you know if your application was approved or marked incomplete.  The email will go to your student email account.  If you receive an email that your application was marked as incomplete, contact your Academic Advisor for information.

I applied for graduation but haven't heard anything since I applied.

Once your advisor has reviewed your application, you will receive an email, to your student email account, letting you know if you were approved.  If you were not approved, please follow the instructions in the email or contact your advisor.

Do my guests need a ticket to come to my graduation?

Guests do not currently need tickets to attend graduation.  However, please let your guests know that seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Saving seats is not allowed.

I finished my classes.  When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas are mailed out, from JOSTENS, 8-10 weeks after the last day of semester (after final grades are posted).

How do I know if I have HONORS?

Honors is calculated using courses you took at UNT and any courses you transferred in from other institutions.  This is called your "overall" grade point average (G.P.A.).  Your overall GPA can be found on your degree audit. Instructions on how to run your degree audit can be found here: http://www.untdallas.edu/registrar/degreeaudit.

My cumulative GPA is a 3.5, will I still receive HONORS?

Not necessarily.  HONORS is calculated using your overall GPA, which includes coursework transferred in from other institutions.  Even if your cumulative GPA is a 3.5 or higher, your overall GPA must also be a 3.5 or higher, to qualify for HONORS.

Will my HONORS be shown in the graduation (commencement) program?

If you have at least a 3.5 GPA at the beginning of your graduating semester, your HONORS will be shown in the Commencement Program.  If you have a 3.5 after you have completed courses in your graduating semester, your HONORS will not be shown in the Commencement Program.  However, HONORS will be reflected on your final transcript and on your diploma.

I have a 3.449 GPA.  Will it be rounded up to a 3.5?

No.  UNT Dallas grade point averages are calculated to the thousandths.

I graduated.  When will I receive my certificate?

Please allow 8-10, after the end of finals, for processing.  If it has been more than 10 weeks since the end of finals, and you still have not received your certificate, you will need to contact your Academic Dean.

How can I order additional copies of my diploma?

Please complete the Diploma Order form found here (https://www.untdallas.edu/registrar/forms).  Once you have completed the form, bring, fax, or email it to the Registrar Office.  Requests for additional diplomas are sent to and mailed from JOSTENS 3 times a year (January, May and August) and usually take 4-6 weeks for delivery.  Please do not contact JOSTENS directly.

I graduate in the summer.  Is there a graduation (commencement) ceremony in the summer?

No, commencement is only held in May and December.  If you need 6 hours or less to graduate, you can participate in the May commecement ceremony. Otherwise, you will receive information for the December commencement ceremony.

I walked in the commencement ceremony, does that mean I graduated?

No, walking in the commencement ceremony does not guarantee that you have graduated.  Graduation is based on the successful completetion of your degree requirements.
