Employer Engagement Strategies and Effective Job Development: A Multidimensional Approach

The end of the school year usually brings great celebration and parties for graduates getting ready to move on to college or start jobs to begin to build their long-term careers. For many youth with disabilities, the end of school is like blowing out a candle at the end of the evening, into complete darkness…. there is nothing left.

Work is the most effective and efficient means for youth with and without disabilities to have a life of meaning, connections, and value. Work also forms the bridge to a life “well-lived”. While definitions of employer engagement vary based on programmatic beliefs, recent practices have illuminated methodologies that result in quality outcomes when developing interest-based jobs.

Best-practices in competitive and integrated employment will form the structure for this training while story telling will humanize examples of quality outcomes. Additionally, we will examine the principles from which we provide support to individuals with disabilities to have a life that includes work.
