Art Education and Art History
The Department of Art Education and Art History in the College of Visual Arts and Design is committed to enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary and past visual art forms. Within and between its comprehensive degree-granting programs, the department provides students and faculty with the opportunity to examine global artistic production, relevant technologies, critical methods, learning theories and innovative approaches to pedagogy and knowledge acquisition.
The Department of Art Education and Art History offers the following degrees in Art Education:
- Art Education: Visual Art Studies (B.F.A., M.A., Ph.D.)
- Art History (B.A. and M.A.)
- Interdisciplinary Art & Design Studies [Open Track or Arts Management Track] (B.A.)
The department also offers a graduate academic certificate in Art Museum Education.

Student accomplishments
Lucy Bartholomee - "Collapsing Boundaries"
Art Education Ph.D. student, Lucy Bartholomee, won the 2015 Graduate Student Scholarly Writing Award with a paper she wrote in Dr. Paula Lupkin's Architecture seminar in conjunction with her work with Dr. Tyson Lewis' Phenomenology class, titled "Collapsing Boundaries."

Dr. Cindy Hasio's Recent Publications
Congratulations to Ph.D Art Education (2012) alumna Dr. Cindy Hasio on the publication of her article “Teaching Art a Greener Path: Integrating Sustainability Concepts of Interior Design Curriculum into the Art Education Curriculum” in the November 2014 issue of Art Education. The publication was co-authored by Valdosta State University Professor Tommy Crane.
