Nearly a dozen professors from UNT toured the Weapons and Materials Manufacturing Directorate of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) facilities Jan. 18-19. Four UNT faculty members were among the educators celebrated for their dedication to excellence through research, service and education during UNT's sixth annual Salute to Faculty Excellence Awards Dinner and Ceremony in October. Ram Dantu, College of Engineering professor and director of the UNT Center for Information and Computer Security, has been named a finalist for a prestigious Tech Titans Award. UNT's logistics program recently wrapped up a fundraising challenge, thanks to help from entrepreneur William “Bill” LaMothe, PGL chairman of the board. High schoolers got a jumpstart on aerospace careers this summer thanks to the Aviation Career Academy Camp, hosted by UNT’s aviation logistics program and Tarrant County College’s aviation program. The two universities team up at Alliance Airport and TCC’s aviation education site each June to give students a unique introduction to the high-demand industry. Narendra Dahotre, University Distinguished Research Professor in materials science and engineering at UNT, has been named interim associate vice president of research and innovation at UNT. Dahotre, a former chairman of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in UNT’s College of Engineering, will serve a one-year appointment effective immediately, while the university conducts a nationwide search to fill the position. Michael Thomas, a doctoral student studying in the Department of Chemistry, has been selected to receive a 2017 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
