Mean Green Soccer Stadium

Mean Green Soccer Stadium

The Mean Green Soccer Stadium is home to the North Texas women's soccer program, which has recorded a winning season every year since its inception in 1995.

Like the Volleyball Center and Lovelace Stadium, the Mean Green Soccer Stadium was part of the second phase of development of the Mean Green Village.

The stadium's grass field measures 115 yards long and 72 yards wide, in keeping with the International Football Association's recommended field dimensions. The stadium has permanent seating for over 1,000 fans and a press box with data, phone, and wireless internet capabilities.

Adjoining the stadium are locker rooms, coaches' offices and meeting rooms. The stadium also boasts a lighting system by Musco, the award-winning company which provided lighting for Yankee Stadium, the rededication of the Statue of Liberty, multiple Super Bowls and Olympic Games, the Winter X Games, Texas Motor Speedway and numerous feature films.

North Texas has enjoyed a considerable home-field advantage at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium since its first game on August 31, 2006, when North Texas rallied for a 2-1 overtime win against the University of Houston. North Texas did not lose at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium until the final home game of the 2006 season, and went on to win 42 of the first 50 games played at the stadium.

Twice the stadium has had crowds of more than 1,000 fans, against SMU in 2010 and Oklahoma in 2008.

In 2008, the Mean Green Soccer Stadium was host for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and in 2011 it was the site of the regular-season finale between North Texas and Denver for the Sun Belt Conference's regular-season championship. On a cool October evening, North Texas got a goal from Kelsey Hodges on a free kick from midfield early in the game, then made that lone score hold up for a 1-0 win, capping its first undefeated season at the stadium.

In 2018, North Texas soccer will move to a new home at the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium being built on the southside of the Mean Green Village.
