EMV Debit Cards: A More Secure Way to Pay

Security and convenience are top priorities when it comes to making in-store purchases. As First State Bank strives to provide our customers with peace of mind and leading-edge banking technology, we now issue EMV Debit Cards—also known as chip cards or smart cards—with all checking accounts.

EMV, which is named after Europay, MasterCard and Visa's debit card systems, is a global card payment standard used in more than 80 countries worldwide. Embedded with special microprocessor chips, EMV Debit Cards offer advanced security with card-present purchases.

EMV Chip Debit Card Specifics

With EMV technology as the new standard in the banking industry, it’s good to know what it can offer. Our EMV Debit Cards:

  • Have embedded chips for enhanced transaction security when making in-store purchases.
  • Have magnetic strips, as well as EMV chips, so you can continue to make purchases with the traditional swipe method when chip-enabled options are not available.
  • Can be used to make international purchases. International transactions are restricted without prior notification. Restrictions can only be waived for card-present transactions for designated timeframes.
