Mean Green Drops Home Contest to Blue Raiders, 72-52

DENTON, Texas (12/31/08) The North Texas women’s basketball team was unable to overcome a game-high 27 points from Alysha Clark and the Mean Green fell 72-52 to Middle Tennessee Wednesday afternoon at the Super Pit.  

The loss suffered by North Texas was their third consecutive. Brittney James proved to be the lone bright spot, putting together a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Middle Tennessee now leads the all-time series 8-4.

The Mean Green (5-8, 1-2) was able to hang around for most of the game until Middle Tennessee went on an 8-0 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers by Brandi Brown to give the Blue Raiders a 59-46 lead with 6:10 left in the contest.

North Texas struggled shooting the ball both from the field (35 percent) and free throw line (47 percent). Senior Amber Jackson, who entered the contest averaging 16.8 points per game, was held to only eight points points.

Middle Tennessee (11-4, 2-0) did most of their early damage from the charity stripe, connecting on 11-of-12 at the line and went on a 14-6 run to close the first half, taking a 37-28 lead into the locker room. Clark proved to be a force in the paint for the Blue Raiders, scoring 15 points in the first half and also grabbed eight rebounds.

North Texas will look to snap their losing streak on Saturday, Jan. 3 at Sam Houston State. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
