Mean Green Ring In The New Year At UALR

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The North Texas women's basketball team looks to end the 2009 calendar year with a bang as they face the Preseason favorite in the SBC West Division UALR on New Year's Eve. Game time is at 2 p.m. from the Stephens Center and the game can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.

The Mean Green began its longest road trip of the year with a 71-44 loss to Missouri on Monday night. North Texas has lost two straight games and five of its past six since the start of De­cember. UALR is coming off an 87-55 win over Southeast Missouri and has won three straight games and five of their past six.

Both teams are 1-1 in Sun Belt Conference play through two games.

North Texas and UALR will meet for the 16th time in school history on Thursday. North Texas has the series edge over the Trojans 9-6 but UALR has won five straight in the series. The last win for the Mean Green over UALR came in 2006, a 60-43 win on the road. The Mean Green is 4-4 on the road in Little Rock.

North Texas will play a game on New Year's Eve for only the fifth time in school history. The last time North Texas played on Dec. 31 was a 72-59 win over NW State in 2005. The Mean Green will be on the road for only the second time on New Year's Eve as the played at TCU to close out the 2003 calendar year. North Texas is 2-2 on New Year's Eve games.

North Texas continues on the road after facing the Trojans as they face Arkansas State on January 2 on Saturday afternoon at 3:05.
