Mean Green Women's Hoops Falls To SMU

DENTON, Tex. (12/2/09) -- Freshman Jasmine Godbolt's career night wasn't enough as  the Mean Green fell to cross-town rival SMU 80-58 at the Super Pit Wednesday night.

North Texas (3-5), who trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, cut the halftime deficit to six, but could never overcome the Mustangs (7-1) in the second half.

Godbolt poured in a career high tying 16 points and hauled in 12rebounds, also career high tying, led North Texas in both categories.

Christine Elliot led all scorers with 18 points for SMU as teammate Haley Day topped her previous season high of 10 by tallying 16 points.

The Mustangs collected 18 assists in the contest while only surrendering 8 turnovers to the Mean Green. SMU also held North Texas to its second lowest free throw attempts of the season, sending the Mean Green to the line only 10 times on the night nine of which were in the first half.

North Texas has now out-rebounded their opponent two games in a row and three times this season, collecting 46 boards to SMU's 34 rebounds. The Mean Green hauled in a staggering 20 times on the offensive ends.
