North Texas fell 55-54 to (RV) Kansas State in its most recent game.

Despite leading for nearly 30 minutes, outshooting and outrebounds the Wildcats, second-half free throws by K-State doomed the Mean Green in the one-point loss.

Though the result wasn’t what the team had wanted, the game provided confidence to a fairly young team looking to improve on the previous season’s win total for a third consecutive season.

The San Juan Shootout was scheduled to be played in San Juan, Puerto Rico, until Hurricane Maria hit the island in September.

Coastal Carolina heads into Thursday’s game coming off a 44-point win over Allen University on Monday. The Chanticleers are led by Jas Adams and DJ Williams who have combined to average nearly 35 points per game.

Coastal has also been dominate on the boards early this season, averaging 55 per game. They had 68 versus Allen. Even in their six-point loss to UNC Greensboro, Coastal Carolina still outrebounded their opponent by holding them to just 29 total.

Adams and Williams combined for 33 points in that game.

LOOKING FOR WIN NO. 3
North Texas hasn’t won three games before the month of December since the 2011-12 season when they won four games. Since 1981, the most wins UNT has won before December is five, which they accomplished in 2007. With three games remaining in November UNT can match that record.

OWNING THE PAINT
North Texas has outscored its first three opponents in the paint by a combined score of 106-24. They outscored Texas A&M International 44-2 in the paint in their second game of the year. 51 percent of UNT’s points this season have come from inside the paint.

POINTS IN PAINT BY GAME
Nov. 10 vs. MACU, 38-4
Nov. 14 vs. TAMIU, 44-2
Nov. 19 vs. K-State, 24-18

REBOUNDS
North Texas is averaging 41.3 rebounds per game through its first three games and limiting opponents to just 34 rebounds per game. In comparison, last season the Mean Green were only averaging 34 rebounds per game and allowing the opponent to average 44 rebounds per game through the first three games. Micayla Buckner leads this year’s team with 8.7 rebounds per game. Freshman Lauren Holmes isn’t far behind with 8.0 rebounds per game. Terra Ellison and Buckner led the Mean Green through the first three games last season. Each were averaging just over 6 rebounds per game at that point.
