IRVING — The Oscars might have ended last night, but there happened to be one more award to give out. North Texas senior guard BreAnna Dawkins earned her first-career Conference USA Player of the Week honor for two extraordinary performances in wins over Florida Atlantic and FIU on February 19 and 21, respectively.

"It's an honor to win this award," Dawkins said. "I'm lucky to have great teammates who can find me for open looks. I couldn't have done it without them... I worked hard this whole summer to come back on the court and this award shows that hard work never goes unnoticed."

Dawkins had career highs of 24 points - on 10-17 shooting, including 3-3 from beyond the arc - and 13 rebounds in the Mean Green's 74-55 win over Florida Atlantic. It was her first-career double-double in her 62nd-career game at North Texas. She also added five assists and three steals, which tied personal season-high marks, to go along with only one turnover.

In Thursday's post-game press conference, head coach Mike Petersen called it, "As efficient a line as you can have in this sport."

Dawkins continued her tear in Sunday's 77-61 victory over FIU, when she scored 21 points on 8-18 shooting, including a season team-best 5-5 from the foul line. She also added two rebounds and two assists, compared to only one turnover once again. Through 61 career games, Dawkins had one 20-point game, then had two in two games, in a span of three days.

"I think it's a very deserving recognition because Bre had back-to-back phenomenal games," Petersen said upon hearing the news. "It's also an indication that individual recognition comes when your team can win some games."

As the head coach said, most importantly, Dawkins' great games led North Texas to two wins, doubling the team's C-USA win total over the weekend and improving its overall record to 5-20. The Mean Green will now carry its two-game winning streak east, as the team is set to face Charlotte and Old Dominion on February 26 and 28, respectively.
