Feb. 18, 2017

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The North Texas women’s basketball team looks to build on its current four-game winning streak and take a step closer to clinching a spot in the 2017 Conference USA Women’s Basketball Championship presented by MetroPCS as they travel to Texas-San Antonio Saturday afternoon.

The Mean Green (10-14, 7-6 C-USA) will go for a program record eighth C-USA win. North Texas takes on the Roadrunners (11-13, 7-6 C-USA) in the Convocation Center at 2 p.m. The game will be aired live on KNTU 88.1 FM.

UTSA and North Texas are tied for seventh in the 14-team standings and the winner of Saturday’s game has the potential to move into a tie for sixth with a loss by Old Dominion. The top four teams in the standings receive a first round bye in the C-USA Championship. Entering Saturday, North Texas sits just two games out of fourth place. Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech are tied for fourth. The Mean Green travel to play Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss next week.

Including Saturday, five games remain on the schedule for North Texas.

North Texas is averaging 75 points per game during the winning streak. They were averaging 59.5 points per game in 20 games prior. A large contribution to the scoring increase has been offensive efficiency. The Mean Green have cut down on turnovers and own a 45 percent field goal percentage in the last four games. They’re out rebounding their opponents and holding them to an 18 percent 3-point field goal percentage.
