Mean Green Head West Looking For Fourth Straight Win

Feb. 16, 2017

EL PASO, Texas. -- The North Texas women's basketball team rides into West Texas on its season-high three-game winning streak and is one Conference USA win away from a single season program-high seventh.

More importantly, the Mean Green are on a path to further climb the conference ladder. With just six games left on the schedule, North Texas has dug itself out of the bottom quarter of the standings and now sits in eighth place and is just two games out of the top-4, which would give them a first round bye in the C-USA Women's Basketball Championship presented by MetroPCS.

Thursday, the Mean Green (9-14, 6-6 C-USA) take on UTEP (6-18, 3-9 C-USA) in the Miners' Don Haskins Center at 8:05 CT live on BeIN Sports and on the radio at KNTU 88.1 FM.

LAST GAME
North Texas held Florida International to an opponent season-low 49 points while on its way to the 20-point 69-49 win over the Panthers in the Super Pit on Saturday. The win was the Mean Green's second-straight 20-point plus victory. It was also their third win in a row, which is tied for the longest winning streak under second-year head coach Jalie Mitchell. In the game against FIU, North Texas was led by Terriell Bradley, who had her first career double-double by scoring 19 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. Additionally, the Mean Green had a season-high 17 assists. They scored nearly one point on every possession and scored 28 points off 22 Panther turnovers.

THE OPPONENT
UTEP enters Thursday's game on a four-game losing streak. The defending C-USA regular season champions haven't scored more than 61 points in a game during the losing streak and have given up a total of 71 offensive rebounds in the last four games. The Miners are led by Sparkle Taylor and her 16.4 points per game, the eighth highest in C-USA. Tamara Seda is averaging 9.6 rebounds per game, which is second best in the conference. UTEP has recently done a better job at limiting 3-pointers and in its most recent game at Southern Miss, forced 20 turnovers.

GOING FOR FOUR IN A ROW
North Texas hasn't had a four-game winning streak since January of 2013 when they won five in a row.

20-POINT WINS
North Texas defeated Florida Atlantic last week by 22 points and FIU on Saturday by 20 points. It was the first time in 11 years they'd won back-to-back games by 20 or more points. In the 2005-06 season they won back-to-back games by 20 or more points twice and won a total of five games by 20 plus points. The Mean Green have never won three games in a row by 20 or more points.

Terriell Bradley GOING FOR 100
Sophomore Terriell Bradley has made 94 free throws this season. The last time a Mean Green player made 100 or more free throws in a single season was Jasmine Godbolt and Brittney James who both did it in the 2009-10 season. Since 2002, Godbolt and James are the only North Texas women's basketball players to accomplish 100 made free throws in a season. If Bradley were to reach 100 made free throws this season, she'd be just the 11th player in program history to make 100 or more in a single season.
