TULSA, Okla. – One game after upsetting heavily favored UTEP in Denton, the Mean Green failed to carry the momentum into a 63-43 loss in Tulsa on Saturday.

“I have no idea who we were today,” head coach Mike Petersen said. “I don’t know how we became a completely different team, but we sure did. And that’s on me. It’s my job to get us to be more consistent, and apparently in the last three days I forgot how to do that.”

The Golden Hurricane (11-13, 5-8) used a big second half to snap a six-game losing streak, earning the team’s first win since defeating the Mean Green on Jan. 29 at the Super Pit.

Despite North Texas (11-15, 5-8) holding Tulsa to 16.7 percent field goal shooting, the Golden Hurricane took a 20-18 lead into the half.

The Golden Hurricane began to pull away with just under 15 minutes left when sophomore Kelsee Grovey and freshman Erika Lane teamed up for three three-pointers in a row to put Tulsa up by 11.

The Mean Green cut the deficit to eight with under nine minutes to play, but could not get over the hump. Sophomore Alexis Hyder led the team with 12 points, and freshman Eboniey Jeter chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.

North Texas looks to rebound when it heads to Houston to square off with Rice at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26.
