1. Proficiency exam or CSCI 1100, CECS 1100, or BCIS 2610.

2. Proficiency exam or COMM 1010, 1440, 2020, 2040 or 2060; or SPHS 1020 (for international students).

3. Contact the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures for placement into the appropriate level. Students must demonstrate proficiency by exam or complete the required prerequisites (LANG 1010-1020) before enrolling in LANG 2040 or 2050.

4. Consult the Department of Mathematics for placement into the appropriate level before enrolling in their first mathematics course.

10. CHEM 1413 and 1423 are honors classes. These courses are recommended for freshmen who took honors chemistry in high school and have credit for or placed out of MATH 1100. Students who elect for honors chemistry enroll in regular CHEM 1430/1440 laboratory sections.

11. DANC 1100, Stress Reduction through Movement (3 hours); PHED 1000, Principles and Practices of Health Fitness (2 hours); PSYC 2580, Health Psychology (3 hours); or SMHM 1450, Principles of Nutrition (3 hours).

12. Advanced American/Texas History courses may be substituted. See "Supplemental Information for BA with a Major in History" in the College of Arts and Sciences section of this catalog for a list of approved advanced U.S. History options (Group A).

15. Students may opt to satisfy requirements for a minor in lieu of free elective hours. A minor requires a minimum of 18 hours, including at least 6 advanced hours. Refer to the department's section of this catalog for specific course requirements for the minor.

16. Hours required in electives or options at either the lower level or upper level may vary based on proficiency exams (when applicable), course placement or core course selection. The student is responsible for completing 42 advanced hours and the total minimum of hours required for the degree. Consult your departmental adviser.

(4 hours) to complete required chemistry minor.

23. Contact the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures for placement into the appropriate level. Students must demonstrate proficiency by exam or complete the required prerequisites (LANG 1010-1020) before enrolling in LANG 2040 or 2050. With approval of the departmental adviser, students may complete 12 hours of additional advanced biology, math or biochemistry as a substitution for foreign language.

24. Advanced BIOL options should be chosen from BIOL 3600 or 4300, 3450, 3510, 3520, 4090.

25. 8 hours of lower division BIOL classes can be used to complete a 20 hour biology minor. BIOL 1710/1730 and 1720/1740 and BIOL 2040 are recommended.

28. Necessary to meet the 84 hours in the division of science degree requirement.

29. Required to meet the 40 advanced hours in science requirement. Option should be selected with the assistance of undergraduate adviser.

30. 2.75 GPA is required in all advanced courses attempted in the Department of Computer Science.

31. Can substitute LANG 3060 and 3070 or equivalent.

32. Select a minor in which you have already taken at least two courses for other reasons; e.g., MATH, ENGL, PHYS, HIST.

33. Courses are offered varying semesters. For rotation of courses, contact departmental adviser.

34. For the BS degree in Economics, the statistics courses MSCI 3700-3710 or MATH 4610-4650 are required.

35. 2.5 GPA is required for all courses required in the engineering technology area of concentration.

38. English majors who are seeking Secondary Certification must consult the English undergraduate adviser for specific advanced English course choices.

39. ENGL 4010 will apply toward the Understanding of Ideas and Values, Group III core requirement as well as an advanced English course.

40. At least 6 hours in the major must be at the 4000 level.

41. Consult departmental adviser regarding advanced courses in regional and/or earth science.

42. Choose from approved science/math courses listed in Groups 1, 2 or 3 under Department of Geography, BS degree.

44. 18 hours of course work from the College of Business Administration, including MKTG 3650 and 4120, and MGMT 3820 are required; if business administration is chosen as minor/concentration, these courses will apply toward the minor/concentration.

54. 2.0 GPA required in all mathematics courses above MATH 3150.

55. Check with your academic adviser for an approved list of minors and approved course listings.

56. Mathematics majors must complete two courses of natural/life science in the same discipline, BIOL 1710/1730 and 1720/1740. They also must complete two courses of physical science in the same discipline, either CHEM 1410/1430 and 1420/1440, or PHYS 1710/1730 and 2220/2240.

57. One course to be chosen from MUMH 4050, 4070, 4750, 4760, 4770, 4780; MUCP 4510; MUJS 4470.

58. Mathematics requirements for this degree also meet the requirements for a minor.

59. One course from field C required, plus be sure you cover at least three fields, as described in "Supplemental Information for BA with a Major in Political Science" in the College of Arts and Sciences section of this catalog.

60. RTVF 3450, 3460 will apply toward the visual and performing arts core requirement as well as an advanced RTVF elective.

61. RTVF 3550 will apply toward the Understanding of Ideas and Values, Group II core requirement as well as an advanced RTVF elective.

62. Majors in RTVF should choose only one course from RTVF 3400, 4330, or 4460 to satisfy the writing requirement.

63. With the approval of the economics department adviser, students may complete 6 hours of mathematics beyond MATH 1720 (Calculus II) as a substitution for foreign language.
