Mean Green Draw Texas For First-Round Matchup

Nov. 6, 2017

DENTON -- The North Texas soccer team will play the University of Texas on Friday at 5 p.m. in Austin in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, the NCAA announced Monday afternoon.

On Sunday, the Mean Green defeated Charlotte in a 3-1 shootout to claim the 2017 Conference USA Tournament championship and an automatic birth to the NCAA tournament. This will be the program's fifth tournament appearance.

North Texas lost 1-0 to the Longhorns on Aug. 27 in Denton on a late goal. The Mean Green are 1-3 all-time versus UT.

"We're excited to be going to Texas," said head coach John Hedlund. "It should be another great game between these two programs like we had earlier in the year."

"Making the NCAA Tournament is something we strive for every season. Our seniors did a amazing job of putting our loss to Old Dominion behind us and leading the team, both on and off the field, to the NCAA Tournament," he added.
