Murielle White has been commissioned to create a mural for the UNT Student Union cafeteria. Two of the Union projects have been cancelled. A contract is pending for the fourth project, a wall for the UNT Student Union meditation room, which will be announced soon.

DISCOVERY PARK AND UNT BUSINESS SERVICE CENTER

The UNT Art in Public Places Committee announces three new open Calls for Proposals:

UNT Business Service Center at Woodhill
All inclusive budget: $23,000

The University of North Texas Art in Public Places Committee seeks to purchase artworks or commission artists to create original artworks to be located in public areas at the UNT Business Service Center (Woodhill Square Office Complex). This recently renovated site is home to a newly established center designed to improve effectiveness in business operations and services that enable the three system campuses—UNT, UNT Health Science Center, and UNT Dallas—to continue to function as high-quality educational institutions. Services now provided by the Business Service Center at Woodhill include Payroll, Procurement, Purchasing, Client Services, Payments and Travel, Supplier Diversity and Human Resources. Possible locations for artworks include glass enclosed entry vestibules and interior switchback ramps.

The University of North Texas Art in Public Places Committee seeks to purchase artworks or commission artists to create original artworks to be located in public areas at the UNT Discovery Park complex.  Discovery Park is home to Colleges with various technology and engineering departments. The academic programs include Mechanical and Energy Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Construction Technology and Materials Science. The building is a former Texas Instruments corporate campus, with wide walkways for circulation, numerous atriums illuminated by natural light, and various common areas for students and visitors to congregate. These elements are contained in a generous footprint located on a site north of UNT’s main Denton campus.  Possible locations for artworks include interior walls and atrium spaces.

Bruce Hall Cafeteria - Proposals due May 22, 2014

Located at one of the major entry points to the UNT campus, on the corner of Chestnut Street and Avenue C, Bruce Hall is home to a creative community of students. It houses residents of all classifications and majors, but is known for being home to arts students and musicians. Built in 1946, Bruce Hall is the oldest residence hall on campus and boasts a history that includes a handful of famous ex-residents, such as musicians Norah Jones and Don Henley. Bruce Cafeteria, which is one of the busiest dining locations on campus, has been renovated and expanded to seat 664 people, including a covered patio and a new dining hall entryway. This Percent for Art Project has opportunities for a large-scale two-dimensional artwork and/or a small-scale outdoor sculpture or installation.

Greek Life Center and Discovery Park

Greek Life Center - Proposals due March 26, 2014

Centrally located on Welch Street in Denton, Texas, the Greek Life Center will serve as a dedicated location for UNT's Greek community, allowing organizations to host Greek programs and events for both students and alumni.  In addition to housing the Greek Life staff, the Greek Life Center will provide office space, meeting space, Chapter rooms, and storage areas for the Multicultural Greek Council, Interfraternity Council, Pan-Hellenic Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council.

UNT Student Union Project Update

Thank you to all the artists who responded to the RFQ for the Percent for Art Project at the new UNT Student Union. We're experiencing a delay in starting our review process, but we are almost ready to start and expect to contact artists in February or March who are selected to submit a proposal. Please remember, as stated in the RFQ, we will contact only those artists who are selected to go to the next phase of the application process. We want to keep everyone informed, so please check back for updates on our progress.

Deadline Extended, UNT Student Union RFQ for Artists

The deadline for artists to submit applications in response to the UNT Student Union RFQ752-13-114223-CC (artwork commissions) has been extended a second time, from Friday, November 1, 2013 to Friday December 6, 2013. The revised overall estimated timeline is as follows, with additional changes possible after the submission deadline to accommodate the selection process. All updates to the schedule will be posted at http://untappc.blogspot.com.
