Needs Statement
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is responsible for one death every four minutes in the United States and is now the third leading cause of death. Even though COPD is common and usually progressive and disabling, it is treatable and partially reversible. This presentation will take a look at the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, assessment, management, and novel targets for therapy, of COPD.Target Audience
This activity was planned to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists and social workers.Objectives
- Recognize novel understanding of the pathophysiologic mechanisms of COPD
- Review current guidelines recommendation for the management of COPD
- Outline new developments in therapeutic targets of COPD
- Recognize and implement non-pharmacologic approaches to COPD
