Diana Berman (Photo by Michael Clements)Diana Berman, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, received the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities this spring. This award for young faculty is considered one of the most prestigious for professors in engineering, sciences, mathematics, policy, management and education. Berman is researching how structural modifications affect the performance of 2-D thin films used as lubricating materials in nano- and micro-electronics. Improved performance of the materials would reduce friction to help these devices run more efficiently.
