Needs Statement

The Medicare Access and Chip Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) and the release of the regulation implementing MACRA’s Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)represent the most fundamental changes in reimbursement experienced by health care providers in decades. With these changes, the practice of medicine becomes streamlined, but also more transparent. How a physician or group practice delivers care (quality), uses data (advancing care information), assesses and conducts improvement (improvement activities) and manages the use of healthcare resources (cost of care) will be used to determine incentives or penalties related to reimbursement.

The new system – applicable for most physicians who accept Medicaid Part B -  will require changes to processes and practices, as well as developing new knowledge and skills. Understanding the new law, MIPS and the measures which must be reported are vital to delivering care in 2017 and beyond.
