Educating Patients on Appropriate Inhaler Use

Needs Statement

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about and use demonstration devices of newer asthma and COPD inhaler devices in ‘skills lab-type’ atmosphere. Educational techniques to teach patients how to correctly use these newer inhaler will be reviewed. Participants will be able to compare and contrast the newer inhalers with existing inhaler technologies. How these newer inhalers are being used in the current treatment of asthma and COPD will also be discussed.

Target Audience

This activity was designed to address the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers.

Objectives

• Demonstrate the use of newer inhaler medications for asthma and COPD
• Compare and contrast newer asthma and COPD inhaler devices with existing technologies
• Discuss the use of newer asthma and COPD inhalers in current therapy
• Develop educational technique to speak with patients about newer asthma and COPD inhaler devices
