Introducing the "Chunk" litho pencil holder

Introducing "THE CHUNK"
Printmaking Tech Thomas Menikos has designed a litho pencil lead holder to be 3d printed at the CVAD computer lab.  Students may go to the lab and print the file named "THE CHUNK" on the TAZ-LUBOT.  It takes about 1.5 hours to print in a color of your choice.  The hexagonal design is comfy and it has a nice little clip to fit on your apron pocket!

New Drying Rack Donated

Thomas and Connor pose with our new print drying rack
This week we unexpectedly had a donor contact us to deliver a new print dying rack for our studios!  Thomas Menikos (Printmaking Tech), Connor Elliot (BFA 2019), Sally Bullock (MFA 2020), and Andy DeCaen (Printmaking Coordinator) worked together to assemble the rack so we could use it for the start of the Fall semester.   This is such a great gift!  Many thanks to our anonymous donor!

New Approaches to Monoprinting is taught by Lari Gibbons, an artist who explores new and traditional approaches to printmaking through collaborative, interdisciplinary projects. She is Professor at the University of North Texas and also directs P.R.I.N.T, a nonprofit fine art press. She received an M.F.A. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Beyond Printmaking 5 Symposium

What: BP5 Symposium
When: March 24 –March 25
Where: Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX

Today many contemporary artists who originally started with printmaking as their primary medium continue to use it in a conceptual or altered technical form to create visually captivating and socially or politically engaging discourses through interdisciplinary approaches. For Beyond Printmaking 5, we chose Patricia Villalobos Echeverría as juror because she is an artist whose practice embodies this vision.

The BP5 Symposium, as an extension of Beyond Printmaking 5, will address the melding of the hybrid processes that allows printmaking to be a perfect vehicle in STEAM education. With so many possibilities in printmaking's future, we will also address the implications of technology with regards to traditional printmaking process.

The BP5 Symposium will present opportunities to discuss the exciting possibilities of printmaking as it embraces not only traditional processes of sculpture, photography and installation, but also insinuates itself into engineering, computer science, and beyond.

For symposium and registration details, visit the website: http://www.depts.ttu.edu

The Beyond Printmaking 5 Symposium is a free event. Please register if you will be attending. Only registered guests will be accommodated at the BP5 Symposium Print Fair and Closing Dinner.
