Professor Robert Jessup featured at The MAC

5/10/14 – 6/28/14

Robert JessupSelections – New Work: 2013-2014

An opening reception will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at The McKinney Avenue Contemporary, located at 3120 McKinney Avenue, in the Uptown District of Dallas.

Exhibitions will be on view through June 28, 2014.

The MAC welcomes Robert Jessup for a solo exhibition in the New Works Space this summer. Selections – New Work: 2013-2014 includes selected paintings from the past year, which explore his journey into a “free play of form”. The intuitive, non-representational form making gives his paintings an open ended resolution, keeping singularity in meaning out of his works. Having identity without being identifiable, the paintings are free to speak for themselves through an abstract visual narrative.

For more information, please go to the MAC website.

ROBERT JESSUP: NEW PAINTINGS

February 22 - March 22, 2014

These pictures are the result of intuitive, non-representational form-making interacting with the mental forces that want to imagistically bind visual elements together. I have been trying to invent configurations that stop just short of representation, configurations that have identity without being identifiable. I have wanted there to be the feel of drama and the sense of narrative without the presence of recognizable images or symbols. Neither abstract nor figurative but still imbued with the current of a story. -Robert Jessup

"TOPO-TARANTULAS" at WARE:WOLF:HAUS

CLOSING RECEPTION
SATURDAY OCTOBER 5, 6-10.
EARLIER VIEWINGS ARE AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT.

Tim DeVoe and Miriam Ellen Ewers collaborate on a new site specific installation that occupies the intersection between sculpture and architecture. This large scale work demonstrates the artists shared preoccupations with the interconnections between human kinesis and topological landscapes. The work requires the audience to suspend their sense of environment and enter a physically challenging setting through a portal that takes the shape of a van. TOPO-TARANTULAS force the audience to traverse a fabricated landscape and engage in the space of WARE:WOLF:HAUS. This is the first collaborative show and first exhibition in the Dallas area for DeVoe and Ewers.

Tim DeVoe, new Assistant Professor at the University of North Texas, holds degrees from the Maryland Institute College of Art (BFA) and Virginia Commonwealth University (MFA). His works have been shown at Keith Talent, London, England; Kim Foster, NYC; The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Virginia Beach, VA; and K Space Contemporary, Corpus Christi, TX. His new studio is in Denton, Texas. http://timothydexterdevoe.com

Miriam Ellen Ewers, received her MFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006 and Bachelors of Fine Art in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2000. Her works have been shown at ADA Gallery, Richmond, VA; Kim Foster Galley, NYC; Monte Vista Gallery, Los Angles, CA; The Washington Project for the Arts Corcoran Flashpoint Gallery, Washington, DC; The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, Virginia Beach, VA; and is currently featured in the 2013 Texas Biennial at the Blue Star Contemporary Arts Museum. http://miriamellenewers.com

WARE:WOLF:HAUS is a warehouse space located at Trinity Groves in west Dallas. It is an incubator for experimentation and a collaborative effort to show rad things that may or may not be perceived as art.

THE BEST // Meet the Artists, RECEPTION APR 6, 6-9PM

Derek Rankins, MFA candidate at UNT featured in Red Arrow Contemporary.

A BAG OF PEANUTS is the elevation of something simple into something complex. By photographing the peanut and then re-presenting it as an image, I am creating a conversation between the individual peanut, multiple peanuts, and the entire bag. The intent is to create value where there may appear to be none. By piecing the bag of peanuts apart and then piecing it back together as images on a sterile white background, I am presenting a contemplative experience between the images of the peanuts and the viewer. The root of the work lies in the Part and Whole approach to my subjects. With a bag of peanuts there exists a part and a whole contained within one individual package. This allows for similarity and difference to exist simultaneously. So many times photography has allowed for a vast landscape to be reduced into a small photograph. Similar but in reverse, I am attempting to take something common and present it as profound.

“The Part And The Whole” – Derek Rankins – Thursday, March 7th at 7:00pm

Opening Reception – 3.7.13 7pm-10pm

Show runs through 3.23.13

About the Artist:
Derek Rankins pays homage to his roots in rural Southeastern Kansas. In 2004 he worked as a lab technician for the last remaining Kodachrome processor until which he moved to Texas to pursue a photography career. In 2006, Rankins received his Bachelors in Photography from Texas A&M University-Commerce and began developing his personal work over the next five years. Derek is now pursuing his Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography at the University of North Texas in Denton with an expected graduation date of May 2013.

About the Work:
The Part and The Whole is a visual representation of how I interpret my surroundings and how I interact with these parts of culture. It is a comprehensive collection of miscellanea and explores the possible narratives that take place. As I have attempted to visualize the sum of its parts, I have come to see that there is no whole, that the parts are infinitely divisible.

Trey Egan MFA Exhibition

Cris Worley Fine Arts is pleased to host Trey Egan's MFA thesis exhibition Be Still with Me, opening Saturday, January 12th with an artist reception from 6pm - 8pm. Be Still with Me is Egan's second solo exhibition (and first in North Texas) following a brilliant debut during ArtHouston 2012. In Egan's paintings, channels of rich color intermingle with indefinite organic forms. His lush and abstract canvases exemplify the beauty of pure paint and are made through the artist tapping into his subconscious without the purpose of depicting specific visual imagery. In this way, Egan's visual language deals with the relationship between the subconscious and physical space and allows the viewer to navigate each composition through his or her own memories and experiences.

Trey Egan is a candidate for a Masters of Fine Art in the spring of 2013 at the University of North Texas College of Visual Art and Design. He has been part of many juried group exhibitions including some juried by: Peter Doroshenko (Executive Director of the Dallas Contemporary), Toby Kamps (Curator at the Menil Collection), Clint Willour (curator at the Galveston Arts Center) and artists Annette Lawrence, Vincent Falsetta, and Erick Swenson among others.
