GRADUATE OPEN STUDIO NIGHT

Graduate Open Studio Night at University of North Texas

The graduate students at Oak Street Hall, 1120 West Oak Street, Denton, invite the community into their studio spaces. The event will be held from 5pm – 8pm. Graduate Students from the College of Visual Arts & Design will open their individual studio spaces for this one night. There will be artists working work on display for all to enjoy.

The event is free and open to the public.

The facility houses spaces for graduate students in the programs of Ceramics, Drawing & Painting, Photography and Printmaking. Students from programs such as Fibers, Metalsmithing & Jewelry, and Sculpture will also participate by showing work in spaces throughout the building. Some artists will have work for sale.

The event is accompanied by an exhibition reception from 5pm-7pm in the Cora Stafford Gallery, located within Oak Street Hall.

The Graduate Students at UNT are calling on their community to come out and see the fresh, contemporary artwork being made right here in the Denton Community.

  1. All entries are to be submitted via e-mail (jpeg 600+Res) or colored photographs of your work by October 2, 2013. Each work must be labeled accordingly with the media, dimensions (not to exceed 48" x 48") and title of work.

Important:
Artist accepted for the show will need to be available for demonstrations during the three days of the MCOFA. You will also be required to man your booth at all times. Note: No booth will be left unattended at any time. If you take a break, make sure someone knowledgeable of your work takes your place. Any participating artist will be allowed and may schedule a time for demonstration(s) during the event if the artist so desires.

Standards and Presentation:
The only work eligible for this event will be original works of Fine Art. Artist is welcome to submit original (mixed media, oil, watercolor, and acrylic), drawings sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, and photography. NO prints or reproductions will be allowed in this event. Upper Valley Art League will disqualify any entry upon arrival that does not meet the above standards.

Sales:
The Upper Valley Art League will not charge a commission for any original work of art sold during this event. Artist is welcome to price their work as they wish. The only requirement being that they clear their work through the Upper Valley Art League before you display it. Again we are promoting original works of art not reproductions.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY AND / OR RESUME:
All entries must be accompanied by a bio or resume; this may be used for publicity purpose.

Disclaimer: Deposit or fee will be returned if artist is not selected.

Insurance: There is no insurance coverage for any work presented or shown during the event. Artist is responsible for watching and securing their work throughout the event.

MFA Alumna Fundraising for Nepal

Dear friends and friends of photography,

Many of you have followed my volunteering journey in Nepal this year. Some of you have supported me directly in many ways or supported students in Nepal through collecting books for them or contributing to the cause of building a proper library in their village named Bhiman which became my home for half a year. It is time to let you know where all these efforts have gone and how this story continues. To do so I wrote a summery of what has been done and where we stand now for those of you who might be interested.

You may also remember that I volunteered in Nepal as an English teacher with no support of any institution that would sponsor me. I was sponsored by myself with the help of some of you who joined me in during my fund-raising before I left for Nepal. That way I was able to cover my main expenses such as air-ticket and medical necessities. However, during my stay in Nepal there were so many opportunities to be truly helpful through buying clothes, shoes, headlights, food and much more to those who were in need. Several of you asked me to do my second fund-raising with my photography from Nepal.

I hope some of you will simply and merely enjoy the new images with absolutely no obligation expected. Some of you may just want to pass this on. To others I hope this is an opportunity to gain hand-printed silver gelatin and certified archival color photographs that might be of interest to you for a third of a standard gallery price and in small editions of a size never printed before. Despite of what has been said above, this fund-raising is mainly focused on raising money to support Pawan Poudel, the youngest son of the family, which took care of me the whole time for no acceptance of any finance. Pawan would like to get a chance in the Czech Republic now. He is in the process of applying for study and work visa in the Czech Republic.

I am offering a choice of fourteen selected (attached) photographs in the size of 10 x 12 inches (the actual image size is 8x10 inches, i.e. 20 x 26 cm), editions of 12 images of each print. Seven of them are silver gelatin prints hand-printed by myself all made from a large format negative. The other seven are color prints photographed on large format color transparencies, professionally printed on certified archival Hahnemühle fine art paper. All images were taken in Nepal in the last 12 months and portray my immediate surroundings and my closest friends there.

All photographers are offered for the price of $280 which does include the international shipping...
